Had to drag myself away from Heavy Rain (it arrived early) to be able to mix the show on time this month! Thankfully the serious amount of quality tunes knocking around made it as easy as Ethan Mars finds it to get the police on his back!

Anthem Pie from Avenger “First Sight”, the Corderoy mix creates more of a sexual downpour than Sony could dream of and Rafael Frost “Flashback” just minces my meat like Detective Blake does psychologists. Hello all, another AWE for your listening pleasures!

Some cracking tunes in this episode, quality from Steve Brian with La Gomera, Cressida turning this into a trance bomb! Suncatcher ’s Ocean City from the Wildflowers EP is also well worthy of note, classics in the form of Endless Wave by the Kamaya Painters and Akesson’s Perfect Blue.

Well, after one hell of a long break due to some pretty damn amazing things happening outside of music, and some evil hard drive cock ups, I’ve finally got the chance to get the old head round keeping up with the Megan Fox-esque sexual trancers week by week again oo-er!

Recorded a week ago, this mix features some almighty porno sounding tracks from John O’Callaghan’s remix edition of latest album Never Look Back, the Matt Hardwick remix of Every Lesson Learned is particularly impressive, equally so the Heatbeat reworking of Find Yourself…oof!

Daz had a very loving month of January, he moved in with his missus into the House Of Bartley-Summers, with tranquil, moist feelings all around them, red-chested robins filling the garden up with warm fuzzy feelings, sexy hot chocolates in front of the fire for all. Fuck me, not a great start to the month away from music. I’ve been ill, I’ve a landlord who’s a bigger arse than even my arse after Christmas feasting, it’s been the coldest January ever and I had the worst reaction off a new whisky I’d tried ever, haha fuck me where was the love?

Turns out it appeared in the trance releases that popped out whilst I was busy chomping my pillow and warming my bollocks back up from a state of ice blue. Must admit I haven’t a clue when DJ Gard’s “The Beauty Of Life” first appeared but I found it by chance and it led me to finding the rest of his work. Oh my god, what a hero! Nery delivered a couple of instant classics, Sir Bjornus Lovejoy Akesson gave Snooze a reworking into a Wet Dream and by jove, Simon Patterson melted my heart like he & Richie Kayvan did when they churned “Without You” out.

Really enjoyed it, livened up the month no end.

Now I cannot wait for 2nd of February. Really, my favourite TV show in the world finally returns. Hence the inclusion of The Dharma Initiative

So that’s all for this year. I think it’s a mix to play at a specific time of day on a specific day itself – 6pm on New Year’s Eve, before buggering off out to cut some funky shapes and sup the night away.
This mix features a dual bonanza of trance nostalgia, some real beautiful twins. Amanda O’Riordan’s best assets. And what a fine pair! OOF! Her vocals for Angelic of course. It’s My Turn was one of the first vocal trance anthems to grace my ears back in 99/00, it opened my ears up to euphoric vocals and pulled me right in! Can’t Keep Me Silent is another one of those tracks that I’d ask for in a bar just to see if the shite DJ in there has anything worth actually playing. It’s about time it made a TIU playlist, don’t think I’ve featured any of the versions before, tragic really!
As stated in my yearmix post, my tune of the year is Oen Bearen – Hope Cloud, however Soundlift’s sap-inducing remix of Trancemigration by Electribe comes very, very close indeed. And that remix of Where I Belong by Estigma & Ben Aloizi!

Journey’s End 2 (The 2009 Year Mix)

It’s been a bloody crap year in so many aspects, but thank god for the tunes! The last two years in my opinion have been the best for trance for quite a while. Every month I’ve had some right headaches selecting tunes for mixes, there’s always been some stellar tracks that are left out, no fair!

Upon approaching December I compiled a list of tracks to define the year for me. Aiming at around 40, I knew it would be a hard task to filter tracks out that I’d not played so much or hadn’t took that much of a shine to. After several hours, my list was done. However one snag… *counts tracks*.. “Oh crap”. 120! The pruning was painful.

Picking a favourite has been as hard as last year, but I can’t help but shove on Oen Bearen’s Hope Cloud more than anything in the last 12 months, it’s pure emotional thump making a squidgy mess in my y-fronts! My favourite producers this year are DJ Eco, Karanda, Avenger and the spunk-every-8-beats Kaltflut! Hope to see more from all those next year. Enjoy.
